Rehab Place Summer Clinical Intern

Summary

The primary function of this internship is to perform designated tasks that support the daily operations of the therapy and rehabilitation departments. This may include assisting with various indirect patient-related activities. The intern will work under the supervision of clinical staff and department leaders. Responsibilities may include supporting process improvement projects, assisting with purchasing department supplies, preparing medical records for permanent storage following patient discharge, routing medical documents as needed, transporting materials, creating patient education materials, and performing other miscellaneous administrative tasks. Additionally, the role involves cleaning and sterilization of equipment and general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe environment.

As part of the internship, the intern will be assigned one to two projects. These may include developing patient education materials using various platforms, participating in process improvement projects that support Joint Commission and Infection Prevention requirements, and handling administrative duties designed to increase clinician availability for direct patient care.

The ideal student intern for this position will possess a strong set of skills, including innovation, excellent communication, strong organizational abilities, and comfort with technology. Interns are continuous learners who are creative, adaptable, flexible, and effective problem solvers. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for serving others, combined with humility and a strong desire to learn and grow within the healthcare environment.

The internship will follow a flexible schedule, with required availability Monday through Friday during business hours. Interns are expected to work between 32 and 40 hours per week, depending on the needs of the department and the intern’s availability. This internship is best suited for current students enrolled in professional or pre-professional programs with a goal of pursuing a healthcare career. This includes, but is not limited to, those interested in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech-language pathology.

The internship will take place in a community hospital rehabilitation therapy setting. This includes exposure to outpatient and inpatient care, services for both adults and pediatrics, and specialty areas across physical, occupational, and speech therapy. For those interested, there may also be opportunities to observe and engage with hospital and rehabilitation leadership during the internship.

Must meet one of the following requirements: current CNA EMT or Paramedic certification or must take Parkviews Patient Care Foundations course at time of hire 2 years experience in a healthcare related field training time will be determined based on experience currently enrolled in nursing school having completed first clinical rotations if hired prior to 12/3/18 two (2) years military medical experience will be accepted. Must have current CPR at or above the Healthcare Provider level from the American Heart Association or obtain within 60 days of hire. CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification preferred or must have the equivalent of health care experience and education two (2) years previous experience in a nursing support role OR a nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited program (ASN or BSN) having completed their first clinical rotation on an extended care or inpatient nursing unit (nursing school transcripts required). Acceptable accrediting agencies are Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). If assigned to the Parkview Randallia Family Birthing Center must be bonded as a notary public within 6 months of hire. Previous experience is preferred in direct patient care through work and/or school program. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a working knowledge of computer skills and applications. Demonstrates ability to critically think. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with 100 pounds.
