Summary
Summary
Supports the VP of Government Relations and VP of Communications and Creative Services by identifying opportunities to communicate both internally at Parkview and externally to legislators, the media, industry associations, community groups and more. Drafts and distributes all necessary forms of communication, including briefings, releases, talking points, opinion papers, and issue statements. Supports the cultivation and management of strong relationships between elected officials and Parkview Health through excellent communication skills. Monitors the activities of elected officials and identifying potential communication opportunities, obstacles and vulnerabilities. Monitors legislation and policy developments at the local, state and federal levels, then analyzes potential impact and delivers communication strategies or plans.
Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, typical to the job assignment. Prepares effective communication and presentation materials. Interacts and communicates effectively with elected officials and Parkview leadership, while maintaining accuracy, poise and credibility. Researches and analyzes a variety of information from different sources
Compiles and organizes issues and presents them clearly for the intended audience. Understands legislative and other issues affecting hospitals and healthcare. Helps determine the potential implications with elected officials around any communications plan. Supports and implements communications strategies related to health care. Drafts brief materials and public remarks for Parkview leadership in advance of any meetings or public testimony. Identifies and drafts any necessary communications needed for internal and external distribution. Manages multiple projects, tasks, and calendars.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, public policy or related field.
Experience
5+ years in a related communications or government relations position, healthcare experience preferre
Other Qualifications
Is passionate about healthcare policy and developing and deploying communications that foster strong relationships with local, state and federal legislators. Demonstrates understanding of principles and practices of communications and government relations; understanding of the legislative processes at the local, state and federal levels; principles, practices and techniques of releasing public information; strong writing and communication skills; ability to work required hours that support the legislative calendars, including sessions and breaks at the state and local levels. The ideal candidate must have exceptional judgement and an understanding of constituencies to support lawmakers and the health system
