Medical Surgical Summer Clinical Intern

Parkview Health Logansport, IN (Onsite) Full-Time

Summary

This clinical internship offers a unique opportunity for nursing students to work alongside a registered nurse in an acute care setting, observing and participating in the daily functions of professional nursing practice. Interns will follow the nurse’s schedule and engage in a supportive environment dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. They will be mentored and exposed to a diverse patient population, from infants to adults, with both medical and surgical needs. Responsibilities will include participating in patient reports, assessments, medication administration, treatments, rounding, and discharge planning. Projects assigned may include mobility promotion and fall prevention initiatives.

Ideal candidates should possess a willingness to learn and maintain a positive attitude throughout the experience. The internship schedule is flexible due to the unit’s 24/7 operation, with nurses working 6 AM to 6 PM shifts; interns may be placed on either shift depending on mentor availability. This opportunity is best suited for students enrolled in a nursing program. Logansport is hoping to host two nurse interns, with potential placements in med/surg, ICU, ED, OB, or OR units.

Must meet one of the following requirements current CNA EMT or Paramedic certification or must take Parkviews Patient Care Foundations course at time of hire 2 years experience in a healthcare related field training time will be determined based on experience currently enrolled in nursing school having completed first clinical rotations if hired prior to 12/3/18 two (2) years military medical experience will be accepted. Must have current CPR at or above the Healthcare Provider level from the American Heart Association or obtain within 60 days of hire. CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification preferred or must have the equivalent of health care experience and education two (2) years previous experience in a nursing support role OR a nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited program (ASN or BSN) having completed their first clinical rotation on an extended care or inpatient nursing unit (nursing school transcripts required). Acceptable accrediting agencies are Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Previous experience is preferred in direct patient care through work and/or school program. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a working knowledge of computer skills and applications. Demonstrates ability to critically think. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with 100 pounds.
