Virtual Care Summer Non-Clinical Intern
Virtual Care is part of the larger Nursing Informatics team. Informatics focuses on the use of technology in the care of patients - as well as, data analysis. The Virtual Care team is seeking an intern who will work a hybrid of remote (local to Fort Wayne area only) and on site at the hospitals and the Business & Technology Center. Remote work will involve the use of a Parkview provided laptop to assist with data gathering and analysis. Additionally, the intern will assist the team in helping continue supporting Virtual Care initiatives. The various project work experienced as an intern provides a great opportunity to learn about healthcare and will prepare them for future roles.
The intern will receive training on the technology used in the hospital and department which the Virtual Care team supports such as iPhones, iPads, etc. Once trained the intern may go to the hospital units, working alongside the team members, helping to support the use of these devices or other technologies. The intern may be involved in observing and assisting with the implementation of new processes. For the remote work, the intern may complete chart audits, gather data, create reports, and assist the teams with other similar tasks. Actual duties will depend upon the project work at that time.
Students will need to have knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel. Background in data analysis and data visualization is a plus. Students should be willing and able to assist the Virtual Care team in providing technical and workflow support in the hospital/department setting following training. Students will need good communication skills, as they may be interacting with Nurses and Patient Care Techs in the hospitals.
This position will have a work schedule of Monday through Friday, typically between 0800 and 1700 (day shift), but there is some opportunity for flexibility. The best area of study that you believe best fit this internship would include Nursing students, Health Informatics, or similar studies with an interest in technology. Any year of study is acceptable. Applicants should have their own transportation for local travel.
Must be a current undergraduate college student or graduate college student. Specific educational focus or degree may be preferred depending on the hosting department of internship. Specific license and/or certification may be preferred depending on the hosting department of internship. GPA of 3.0 or above Submission of Cover Letter Resume and Letter of Recommendation. Other qualifications may vary by department of internship.
