Public Safety Summer Non-Clinical Intern
Summary
The Public Safety Intern supports hospital safety and security operations by working alongside trained Public Safety Officers. Responsibilities include assisting with patrols, incident responses, enforcing safety protocols, and participating in emergency preparedness and de-escalation activities. This internship offers hands-on experience in public safety and law enforcement within a healthcare setting. Interns will receive training in physical tactics and de-escalation before active duty.
Projects Assigned to the Intern:
There are no specific projects assigned. Interns will work side by side with a Public Safety Office, participating in daily operations and performing the same duties as their assigned officer.
Specific Skillsets Preferred:
- Strong communication skills
- Discretion and sound judgment
- Commitment to public service
- Basic computer skills preferred
Work Week Structure:
- Required Days of the Week: Based on officer assignment; includes rotating weekends
- Required Hours per Week: 36 hours/week
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (06:00–18:30 or 18:00–06:30), with every other weekend off. The schedule mirrors that of the assigned officer.

- Criminal Justice, Corrections, Public Affairs, Psychology
Additional Notes:
Public Safety Interns will be provided with a uniform and paired with a training officer. They will complete physical tactics and de-escalation training before beginning floor duties.
Must be a current undergraduate college student or graduate college student. A specific educational focus or degree may be preferred, depending on the hosting department of the internship. A specific license and/or certification may be preferred, depending on the hosting department of the internship. GPA of 3.0 or above Submission of Cover Letter Resume and Letter of Recommendation. Other qualifications may vary by department of internship.
