Oncology Pharmacy Technician
Summary
The Packnett Family Cancer Institute infusion pharmacy at Parkview Health is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented candidates to join our specialized oncology pharmacy team. This position offers comprehensive training and opportunities for career growth within oncology infusion pharmacy services, including hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding. The Parkview pharmacy department offers a structured Career Path program, with incentives provided for national certification and advanced pharmacy technician roles such as oncology infusion sterile preparation. Complete the entire Career Path and you can potentially earn an additional $5,200 annually, in addition to frequent salary increases and routine range adjustments.
Oncology pharmacy technicians provide safe, accurate, and timely preparation and delivery of critical oncology medications, directly supporting exceptional patient care and enhancing treatment outcomes at the Packnett Family Cancer Institute.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare sterile hazardous and non-hazardous medications following USP and USP standards, utilizing advanced gravimetric compounding technology to ensure medication safety
- Manage mediation inventory, including receiving, stocking, dispensing, and performing regular inventory cycle counts
- Deliver medications and supplies to various oncology-related units, including inpatient adult and pediatric oncology units, surgical suites, and the pediatric hematology and oncology infusion center
- Maintain and clean sterile compounding areas according to regulatory and institutional standards
- Communicate medication needs with pharmacist and nursing staff
Education: High school graduate or equivalent GED required. Successful completion or enrollment in Indiana Board of Pharmacy approved Pharmacy Technician Training program, within one year of employment. Successful completion of high school Algebra course required. Successful completion of clerical and science courses preferred. Computer classes and experience desired.
Licensure/Certification: Must have or be eligible for an Indiana Board of Pharmacy Tech in Training license or a current State Board of Indiana license as a Pharmacy Technician or Intern. A Tech in Training program is offered internally. Full Technician or Intern licensure must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
Experience: One year pharmacy experience and/or pharmacy technician oriented formal class work preferred.
Other Qualifications: Good verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service and technical agility. Must have basic computer skills. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
