Rehab Therapy Summer Clinical Intern

Summary

The primary function of this Parkview Logansport Therapy Services Internship is to perform designated routine tasks that support the daily operations of the therapy and rehabilitation department. Under the supervision of clinical staff and department leaders, the individual may assist with indirect patient-related activities, including helping with process improvement projects that support Joint Commission and infection prevention requirements. Additional responsibilities include monitoring department supply levels, assisting Patient Access staff with scanning and routing medical record documents after patient discharge, transporting materials, creating patient education materials, and performing various administrative tasks. The role also involves cleaning and sterilizing equipment, as well as general housekeeping duties to help maintain a clean and safe environment. These administrative duties are designed to increase clinician time spent in direct patient care and reduce interruptions, such as phone calls, by compiling standardized protocols from Parkview surgeons.

This internship is ideal for current students in professional or pre-professional healthcare programs, particularly those interested in Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday during daytime hours, ranging from 32 to 40 hours per week. The Community Hospital Rehab Therapy setting includes outpatient, inpatient, adult, pediatric, and specialty care services across all three therapy disciplines.

Must meet one of the following requirements: current CNA EMT or Paramedic certification, or must take Parkviews Patient Care Foundations course at time of hire 2 years’ experience in a healthcare-related field training time will be determined based on experience currently enrolled in a nursing school having completed first clinical rotations if hired prior to 12/3/18 two (2) years military medical experience will be accepted. Must have current CPR at or above the Healthcare Provider level from the American Heart Association or obtain it within 60 days of hire. CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification preferred or must have the equivalent of health care experience and education two (2) years previous experience in a nursing support role OR a nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited program (ASN or BSN) having completed their first clinical rotation on an extended care or inpatient nursing unit (nursing school transcripts required). Acceptable accrediting agencies are Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Previous experience is preferred in direct patient care through work and/or school program. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a working knowledge of computer skills and applications. Demonstrates ability to critically think. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with 100 pounds.
