Summary

Diagnoses speech/language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders by selecting and administering appropriate test and measures; evaluates results, degree of severity and prognosis; formulates and administers a treatment plan; interprets testing and treatment to staff, patient and family; determines need for referral to other specialists and/or agencies; maintains proper records and reports.

Education

Must have a Master's degree in Speech Pathology.

Licensure/Certification

Must hold or be eligible to receive a Speech Language Pathologist license in the state where services will be provided within the first 90 days of employment or hold a license as a Clinical Fellow in his/her Clinical Fellowship Year. Clinical Fellow (CFY) must be mentor by a Stated Licensed/ASHA certified SLP in the state where services will be provided and employed by Parkview Health. If employee is a CFY, she/he must obtain state licensure within 18 months of initiation of the CFY. Must hold Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) if not in their CFY. Must be certified in CPR or must become certified within the first 90 days of employment. Must maintain all certifications and licensure according to the expiration date. If assigned to drive a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required. If assigned to drive a personal vehicle, proof of insurance is required in addition to a valid driver’s license.

Experience

Must have at least one year experience working within hospital setting or at a center where clinical contact consisted of a variety of speech/language disturbances occurring in both children and adults; obtained within the previous year. In lieu of previous work experience, must have verification of extensive supervised graduate clinical experience in evaluation and treatment of neurogenic communicative disorders in adults with completion of hospital or rehab center affiliation/internship of at least 8 weeks.

Other Qualifications

Must be able to lift 50 pounds; 100 pounds shared lifting. Must demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic testing instruments currently in use relative to speech/language disorders in children and adults.
