PSM Performance Summer Non-Clinical Intern
Summary
This PSM Performance Internship provides a unique opportunity to work alongside strength and conditioning coaches in a hands-on learning environment. Interns will assist in the development and implementation of sports performance programs for youth club athletes ages 8 to 19, high school athletes across all sports, and individuals returning from orthopedic injuries. The primary goal of these programs is to help athletes gain balance, coordination, flexibility, strength, speed, and power. Interns will be actively involved in observing and supporting all aspects of training, including warm-ups, speed and agility drills, resistance training, and recovery sessions. T
As part of their internship experience, interns will complete two major projects. The first is the design of a year-round training program tailored to a specific athlete demographic and sport. This program must include elements such as assessment, warm-up, plyometrics, speed and agility training, resistance training, and recovery strategies. The second project involves developing a return-to-play program for an athlete recovering from an orthopedic injury. This project will require the intern to consider assessment protocols, warm-up design, exercise regressions, and key return-to-sport competencies. Both projects are designed to simulate real-world coaching scenarios and deepen the intern's understanding of program design and athlete development.
Ideal candidates for this internship should possess strong communication skills and a passion for working with athletes in a performance setting. They should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, demonstrate a strong desire to learn, and have a foundational understanding of human movement and training principles. While not required, current CPR/AED certification is preferred.
This internship is best suited for students or recent graduates in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Athletic Training, or related fields. Interns are expected to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with a commitment of 24 to 40 hours per week depending on academic or scheduling needs. This structured schedule provides ample time for hands-on learning, project work, and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field.
Must be a current undergraduate college student or graduate college student. Specific educational focus or degree may be preferred depending on the hosting department of the internship. Specific license and/or certification may be preferred depending on the hosting department of the internship. GPA of 3.0 or above. Submission of Cover Letter, Resume and Letter of Recommendation. Other qualifications may vary by department of internship.
