Captain/Supervisor

Summary

Summary

Captains/Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of personnel within the Parkview Police and Public Safety and Parking Departments under the direction of their Deputy Chief of Police/Manager. Based on their assigned area the Captain/Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the personnel assigned to him/her as it pertains to the day to day responsibilities of those personnel: i.e. security and emergency preparedness responsibilities for the Parkview Hospital(s) under their supervision, or if assigned to supervise Parking and Access Control (Badging), is responsible for those activities and personnel with the responsibility of badging and access control across the system. Hospital captains will supervise the physical security and emergency preparedness of all Parkview owned buildings and PPG offices & equipment and the creation of a safe Campus Environment with an emphasis on customer Service and Service Excellence, at his/her assigned sites. If assigned to supervise badging and access control and parking, the captain will ensure the parking and badging needs and concerns at all Parkview sites are addressed and managed in a prompt manner focusing on excellent customer service.

The Captains will be directly responsible for the following duties based on their supervisory responsibilities:

1. Uses resources, both physical and human, to provide for the efficient operation of his/her assigned areas.

2. Ensures that all routine assigned duties are performed in a timely manner.

3. Acts as a mentor and a resource to all staff in the facilities.

4. Ensures that staffing is adequate at all campuses each day. Moves staff between locations to meet customer needs.

5. When applicable and in conjunction with the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager, investigates and tracks and trends incidents so that patrol services can be directed where needed.

6. Ensures that all staff complete required training annually.

7. In partnership with the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager, takes corrective action when necessary per the Parkview Health Corrective Action Policy.

8. In partnership with the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager, completes annual evaluations for all assigned co-workers on time.

9. In partnership with the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager, will visit local PPG offices in his/her county to train, educate, and assist with their security and emergency preparedness needs, including conducting walk thru security risk assessments.

10. May be asked to attend the management meetings, Environment of Care meetings, and Violence Prevention Committees when the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager is unable to attend.

11. When applicable, and in partnership with the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager and Director of Emergency Management for Parkview Health, works to ensure that education, training, and drills are being done to meet regulatory compliance, but more importantly to ensure the staff are capable of responding appropriately in the midst of an emergency to save lives and reduce loss.

12. At the direction of the Deputy Chief of Police/Manager, Captains will conduct or direct follow-ups with hospital staff and coworkers who have been victims of workplace violence.

13. Captains will save and recover video that is needed for investigations or has been requested by law enforcement agencies.

14. Captains will review accident reports for their sites.

15. Captains will review any Use of Force reports and sign off on the reports before forwarding to their Deputy Chief/Manager.

16. When applicable, review staff perspective reports on a daily basis for proper documentation and coding of events.

17. As assigned, complete scheduling and approve API and payroll.

18. Other duties as assigned.

Education

Associate's Degree is preferred or sixty (60) hours towards a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Valid Driver's License required. Certification in a Non-Violent Crisis Prevention course, and Basic Life Support (CPR) for Health Care Providers is required within ninety (90) days of employment. Must have or will meet within one year required Law Enforcement Academy training.

Experience

5+ years verifiable experience in Health Care Security, General Security, Law Enforcement, military or other closely related field is required. Must have experience working with computers utilizing windows based systems. 3+ years experience at the rank of Sergeant/Lead and above in a law enforcement setting.

Other Qualifications

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to lift, push/pull up to 70 lbs. Demonstrates ability to multi-task and work independently using critical thinking skills. Must be able to work flexible hours and on-call as assigned and must be willing to travel to all Parkview Health Facilities as needed.
