Surgical Tech Lead
Summary
Under the direction of the OR Supervisor and Director of Perioperative Services, assumes responsibility and accountability for assuring quality care as a health care team member within the Perioperative environment. Responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, and overseeing the day to day operations of Surgical Techs and CSFAs in the department. Works together with Perioperative team including surgeons to anticipate, plan for, and respond to the needs of department in order to perform surgical procedures. Accountable for managing labor resources, including granting time off, supply management, and equipment costs within department recommendations. Is a resource for questions or direction with surgical tech decisions and brings concerns to the OR Supervisor. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patients, families, coworkers, and physicians. Identifies areas that Surgical Techs and CSFAs may need to develop stronger knowledge, assists with competency/education remediation in needed areas. Participates in monitoring, recording and auditing data for departmental QA programs.
Education
Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent GED. Must be a graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or must provide evidence of employment as a Surgical Technologist prior to July 1, 2009. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management or other related field.
Licensure/Certification
Must have current Certified Surgical Technologist certification; or obtain certification within 12 months completion of a degree from an accredited school of surgical technology; or must provide evidence of employment as a certified surgical technologist prior to July 1, 2009; or must be a current valid licensed practitioner providing evidence of employment as a surgical technologist. Certification must be renewed every four years. Completes required 15 CEU credits annually. Must maintain current CPR certification.
Experience
Preferred 5 year's experience as a Surgical Tech or CSFA.
Other Qualifications
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of general computer skills and applications. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of general information about the department. Demonstrates ability to multi-task and work independently using critical thinking skills. Must be able to lift 50 pounds; 100 pounds shared lifting.
