Clinical Generalist Pharmacist
Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is accepting applications for a clinical generalist pharmacist
Position Details: The clinical generalist will provide pharmaceutical care services to the acute care patients of PRMC & Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Clinical generalists rotate through clinical and distribution services, however, could anticipate being assigned to a clinical pharmacist role >70% of the month. These services include, but are not limited to, multidisciplinary rounding 7 days per week, pharmacy consult services, medication monitoring, and proper documentation of patient medication therapy, as well as advising physicians on matters pertaining to drug usage and optimization within assigned hospital locations. Additionally, providing accurate drug information, review and verification of medication orders, oversight of preparation and dispensing activities and systems is also critical. Acute care clinical consults include dosing and monitoring anticoagulants, antimicrobials, total parenteral nutrition, patient-controlled analgesia, and others. With our robust affiliation with various pharmacy schools, the expansion of pharmacy residency programs, and continued growth of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at these facilities, generalists have ample opportunity to mentor pharmacy IPPE/APPE students and PGY1/PGY2 pharmacy residents while also impacting multidisciplinary personnel through continued education.
As part of an established clinical pharmacy program and respected pharmacy department by the organization, this pharmacist will benefit from well-developed relationships with physicians and other care providers. The role is 0.8 FTE position with full-time benefits. This position is a 7-on/7-off position with a standard week being scheduled Wednesday to Tuesday. Weekend shifts will be two 12-hour shifts with weekday shifts being 8 hours. Evening shifts would be expected every 4th week scheduled (or every 8th week per calendar). With six (6) recognized holidays by Parkview Health, this pharmacist would be responsible for up to two (2) holidays each year. Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC), a member of Parkview Health, is a major regional medical center located in Fort Wayne. It provides comprehensive medical services to patients in northeastern Indiana, northwestern Ohio, and southern Michigan. PRMC is a tertiary medical center currently with 544 beds (all private) and is a Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center. In addition to the medical and surgical populations, it also has specialty centers for stroke, cardiology, orthopedics, and oncology. The Women’s and Children’s Hospital sits on the PRMC campus and houses a 41-bed Level III NICU, a dedicated and comfortable family birthing center, and pediatrics care.
Parkview Pharmacy has provided advanced pharmacy services in a variety of areas for decades. Parkview offers a progressive pharmaceutical care environment in a variety of practice settings. Inpatient services include extensive interdisciplinary rounding, graduate medical education engagement, and surgical/critical care and oncology satellite pharmacies. We have also had tremendous growth in ambulatory pharmaceutical care including primary care, hospital-based clinics, specialty clinics, multiple retail pharmacies, and specialty pharmacy. Position Qualifications: Candidates must possess a pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited institution and have completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency or equivalent experience is required. Pharmacy licensure or eligibility in Indiana is required.
Candidates must have a high level of clinical practice skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and the interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with students, health professionals, and patients.
